It was a very special night of music at Ben & Barb's when we had the pleasure to host the most wonderful Stacey Earle and Mark Stuart along with special guest Annie & Rod Capps. Ben had first met Stacey and Mark the the Noreastr Festival in Mio MI and casually approched them about Music Under the Pines, and the next thing you know, they were in our living room! And what better couple to compliment them but Annie & Rod Capps? Ben and Annie work together with Songwriters Anonymous, a support group of songwriters in Southeastern Michigan, and have become fast friends. Annie and her husband Rod have recently released a new CD, One Big Show, and their performance featured songs from that and their other releases. Annie's entertaining songs and performance style and Rod's exceptional guitar work made for a great set of music. After just a few minutes into Stacey and Mark's set, the audience knew they were in for something special! Both were raised in the south, exposed to a tremendous variety of great folk, county, blues, and rock musicians and the influences show in their heartwarming songs. Stacey just grabs you and won't let go, you can't take your eyes off of her. Mark's amazing musicianship and wickedly funny dry wit keep you both slack-jawed and chortling at the same time. Both Annie and Mark are accomplished performers in their own rights, but the two of them together is much greater than the sum of the parts. Stacey and Mark have been touring across the country in support of their new CD,S&M Communion Bread, it was a real pleasure to have them stop in Haslett for a spell!
