Our our third recording, Serious Fun, we explore meaningful subject matter along with our usual jocular fare. This is the first CD to be entirely recorded and produced by us, and we're very proud of it. The eclectic mix of songs include the parodies "Television" - an updating of a Stan Freeberg song from the 1950's, and "The Ballad of Cokie Roberts" - written to the tune of "The Ballad of Davy Crockett" about the ubiquitous newscaster and commentator. Six original songs fill out the recording: "Voice of Summer" is a tribute to Ernie Harwell, the legendary Detroit Tigers broadcaster and Hall of Fame member (who gave songwriter Ben Hassenger the moniker of "baseball balladeer") and "Bona Fide" - an uptempo swing number about finding the real thing in love. "Angelina" is a tender Tex-Mex style tune and "Paws" is and electric Latin song alluding to the healing nature of our feline friends. "Because of You" is a moving rhythmic dedication to a son and his late mother, while "Back to the Sea" was inspired by the death of John F. Kennedy Jr. and the words of his father. "Televsion" was featured on the Dr. Demento radio show, and "Voice of Summer" was played on FOX Sports and NPR's "Only a Game" during features honoring Harwell's long career and retirement. You can listen to song from Serious Fun on A3 internet radio.
